The Story

Billy Garret

Billy Garret is a Malibu-raised, Boise-based builder who spends his days as a cosmetologist and the rest of his hours in a welding mask. He rides and builds motorcycles, and for over a decade he's sold handmade work on Etsy with a perfect 5.0 rating. About two-thirds of his customers come back for a second piece.

Wired Up Mfg gun lamps shot editorial style

He started acting and modeling as a kid, picked it up again in high school, and was working full time in Los Angeles two years out of it. In September 2006 a car accident off Malibu Canyon — the roads he grew up on — ended that at nineteen. What followed was a long search for something to do with his hands.

Wired Up Mfg started in 2012 out of that same instinct: take something with real mechanical history — a trigger, a hammer, a mag well — and rebuild it around a warm Edison bulb until it reads as sculpture, not novelty.

“I turn unexpected, iconic objects into functional art — illuminated sculptures where the light's the medium and the object's the point.”

The Manufactory

The brand runs on a Warhol-Factory model: one artist, one name, many mediums under a single roof. Not a factory and not quite a studio — the Wired Up Manufactory. Gun lamps built on licensed replicas and discontinued production runs. A memento-mori line in bone, horn, and gold leaf. Whatever comes next — it all ships from the same bench in Boise, Idaho, and it's all one collection.

Roughly 200 lamps have left the bench since 2012 — Etsy orders, years of Idaho gun shows, private sales, a few to Canada, and as far as Argentina.

2026 brought a full rebrand: a standardized lineup, matched-pair pricing, and a run of viral reels — seven of them past a hundred thousand views, the biggest past 1.4 million.

“I'll build a lamp out of almost anything — a sewing machine, a trumpet. The magic is figuring out how to make it cool.”

From the archive

Before the black-and-brass look settled in, Wired Up was loud — full-color paint jobs shot like fashion editorial. Some of those early painted pieces are still his favorites, and a gallery line bringing that streak back is in development.

The filament

Strip away the steel and the story and a Wired Up piece is one thing: a hand-wound filament, lit. Every base, every barrel, every finish is there to hold this up and get out of its way.

The bench

Every build starts the same way — broken down to bare parts on the bench, sorted, cleaned, and rewired by hand before anything gets a base or a bulb.

The mark

Every piece finished from October 2026 forward leaves the bench with a brass plate on the underside of its base, struck by hand with its own number. How the numbering works →
